Dear NVMS Parents,

We have noticed an increase in the number of students bringing energy drinks to school. As a reminder, NVMS policy does not allow energy drinks on campus. While we are not overly strict about this, we do hold onto them until the end of the school day if a student brings one.

We kindly ask for your support in ensuring your child does not bring energy drinks to school. Middle school can be a challenging time for students in learning self-regulation, and these drinks do not help their well-being throughout the school day.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

“How are we doing?”  survey (Center for Educational Effectiveness):

Dear Nooksack Valley School District Family or Student:

For us to continue to improve as a school district and as a school, it is important for us to understand stakeholder perceptions about the job we are doing in providing a quality education for all our children. We are seeking information through a 10-15 minute survey.

Scan the QR code on the attached flier.

Thank you so much for giving us feedback on our school.

8th Grade Health Curriculum Parent Night

Join us for an informative evening about the 8th-grade health curriculum! Parents and guardians are invited to attend a special meeting on Wednesday, March 26th, at 7:00 PM in the Middle School Library. This session will provide an overview of the topics covered, answer any questions, and ensure you feel informed and involved in your child's education.

We look forward to seeing you there!

“Monitoring the Future” 8th grade survey:

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

We are inviting the University of Michigan to conduct a survey called Monitoring the Future with our students. This survey will take place on March 28th and March 31st during 8th-period electives.

The survey covers a wide range of topics, including education, free time, future plans, work, and substance use. We believe it is valuable for young people to share their experiences and perspectives, as their responses contribute to a broader understanding of student thoughts and trends across the country. The results will help researchers track changes in student experiences and opinions over time. The study is conducted annually, allowing researchers to track how students' views and experiences change over time. Participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will remain confidential.

We have the survey questions available for review. If you do not want your child to participate, please complete and return the opt-out form. Thank you!

Yearbooks are still for sale!!  $25.  Purchase at the school office, 7:30-1:00 PM, daily.  Cash, check or credit card.

Drop off/Pick up reminder:

  • Please respect the drop off/pick up areas.  No cars in the bus areas until after 5:15. Buses are coming and going through that time.
  • In front of the school, be sure to pull ahead as far as you can when you are waiting to pick up your student.  We cannot have traffic back up on the road or block our bus entrance.
  • Leave the left lane open for passing by.

Cell phone policy change:

This year we will be making a few changes to our school handbook.  One of those changes will be that cellphones will not be allowed out on campus until the end of the school day at 2:15. This change is being made for several reasons as research is showing the many harmful effects of cellphones, social media, and the constant pressures those bring on our youth.  We have had several incidents of students using their cellphones to post pictures (without permission), bully and harass other students while at school.  With our focus on ensuring NVMS is a safe place for our students to grow and learn, we have made the decision to not have cell phones available during the school day.  We hope you as parents will support us in this change as the intent is to make it easier for our teachers to teach and our students to learn.
