State Testing Begins:
This week we begin our state testing with (only) 8th grade taking the Science test. Over the next few weeks, until the end of May, all our grades will take the math and language arts tests. As always, we ask that you ensure your student is well rested and eating properly. If possible, please schedule appointments after school, or notify the office prior to an appointment that your student will be leaving early or arriving late. (Parent Square is an easy way to communicate!) Thank you!!
Mid-semester 2 Progress Reports were mailed home today!
MAD HOPE INFO NIGHT (8th Grade Preview, but open to all families/staff in district):
We will also be offering a Family Information Night about MAD HOPE, including information about youth mental wellbeing, suicide prevention, and suicide prevention science. This will be on Tuesday 4/29 at 6pm-7:30pm. We will have a translator there. See attached information.
Please be sure to ask your student to check Lost & Found for any items. Anything left there on May 1 will be donated.
Over the weeks, some students have been making a mess in the upstairs bathroom and locker room, mainly during 7th and 8th grade use. To address this, all students will now be required to sign in and out when leaving class for the restroom.
NVMS belongs to the taxpayers of the Nooksack Valley School District, including your family. Please remind your child about the importance of respecting and maintaining our shared spaces. Encouraging students to hold each other accountable and report vandalism helps keep our school clean and well-maintained.
Thank you for your support in caring for NVMS!
Dear NVMS Parents,
We have noticed an increase in the number of students bringing energy drinks to school. As a reminder, NVMS policy does not allow energy drinks on campus. While we are not overly strict about this, we do hold onto them until the end of the school day if a student brings one.
We kindly ask for your support in ensuring your child does not bring energy drinks to school. Middle school can be a challenging time for students in learning self-regulation, and these drinks do not help their well-being throughout the school day.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.
Yearbooks are still for sale!! $25. Purchase at the school office, 7:30-1:00 PM, daily. Cash, check or credit card.

Cell phone policy change:
This year we will be making a few changes to our school handbook. One of those changes will be that cellphones will not be allowed out on campus until the end of the school day at 2:15. This change is being made for several reasons as research is showing the many harmful effects of cellphones, social media, and the constant pressures those bring on our youth. We have had several incidents of students using their cellphones to post pictures (without permission), bully and harass other students while at school. With our focus on ensuring NVMS is a safe place for our students to grow and learn, we have made the decision to not have cell phones available during the school day. We hope you as parents will support us in this change as the intent is to make it easier for our teachers to teach and our students to learn.
